Swachh Survekshan 2025: Madurai Tops the List of India’s Dirtiest Cities

Current Context: The Swachh Survekshan 2025 ranking was released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on 4 November 2025.

• It is the world’s largest urban sanitation survey, covering over 4,000 Indian cities.
• The survey evaluates cities on cleanliness, waste management, sanitation services, and citizen feedback.
• In this edition, Madurai (Tamil Nadu) was ranked as India’s dirtiest city, followed by Ludhiana, Chennai, Ranchi, and Bengaluru.
