  • Zoho-backed Bengaluru start-up VoxelGrids has built India’s first indigenous MRI scanner (1.5 Tesla). The scanner is cryogen-free, helium-independent, 40% cheaper, and energy-efficient, making it accessible for smaller hospitals.
International:
  • On 1 Jan 2026, India will assume Chairpersonship of the Kimberley Process (KP) after serving as Vice Chair from 25 Dec 2025. The Kimberley Process is a global initiative to prevent trade in conflict diamonds, with 60 participants covering 99% of global rough diamond trade. This marks India’s third tenure as KP Chair, reflecting trust in its leadership in the diamond industry.

  • Scientists of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) discovered a new soil‑dwelling micro‑arthropod species named Neelus sikkimensis in the high‑altitude soils of Sikkim, published on 1 December 2025. This marks the first record of the genus Neelus in India, raising its global count to eight species. The species belongs to Collembola (springtails) and shows unique traits like labral chaetotaxy. The finding highlights the Eastern Himalayas as a vital biodiversity hotspot.

  • On 28 December 2025, Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu was elected Chair of the BWF Athletes’ Commission. Her tenure will span 2026–2029, making her the first Indian to hold this global post. The role involves representing players’ interests and advising the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on athlete welfare. This achievement enhances India’s presence in international badminton governance beyond Sindhu’s sporting success.
  • On 26 Dec 2025 at Gelephu, Bhutan, Sonam Yeshey created history in men’s T20Is. He became the first bowler ever to claim 8 wickets in a single T20I match. Developed by DRDO, the solid‑fuel missile can carry a two‑tonne nuclear payload. The test was conducted under the Strategic Forces Command, boosting India’s sea‑based nuclear deterrence.
