Current Context: On March 8–9, 2026, the Government of India set up a 17-member committee in New Delhi to reform the SEZ policy.

  • The committee is chaired by the Commerce Secretary and includes members from Ministry of Commerce & Industry, NITI Aayog, DPIIT, CBIC, Directorate General of Export Promotion, Export Promotion Council for SEZs, Development Commissioners, and Department of Economic Affairs.
  • Its aim is to prepare a concept paper and roadmap for SEZ 2.0 within six months, modernizing India’s export ecosystem.
