National:

• On 2 April 2026, India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) signed a Plan of Implementation (PoI) with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). This partnership is a strategic step to upgrade India’s maritime workforce skills by leveraging South Korea’s globally recognized expertise in shipbuilding.

• On 2 April 2026, the Goa Government and Cochin Port Authority joined the Department of Telecommunications’ SAMPANN initiative. The program aims to streamline pension disbursement for retired employees. It ensures timely, transparent, and paperless pension payments through a digital platform.
• Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the BIRAC–BioNEST Incubation Centre at CSIR–CFTRI, Mysuru (Karnataka) in April 2026. Initiative under BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) to nurture startups. Focus: Food-tech, biotech innovation, and entrepreneurship in agri-food sector.
• Madhya Pradesh launched the ‘School Chalen Hum’ campaign in April 2026 to boost enrollment in government schools. Banking:

• In April 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) unveiled a ₹2.54 lakh crore state borrowing plan for the first quarter of FY27 (April–June 2026). The borrowing will be raised through State Development Loans (SDLs) to meet states’ funding needs.
• RBI data shows the CASA ratio of banks fell to 37.9% in Dec 2025, the lowest in two years. This is down from 40.1% in Dec 2023, reflecting a shift in depositor behavior. Savers are moving money into higher-yielding assets and fixed deposits as banks raised FD rates. Post-festive consumption spending also contributed to the seasonal dip in savings balances.

Science & Technology:

• ISRO has launched Mission MITRA in Leh, Ladakh (April 2–9, 2026) to test crew safety and performance for India’s upcoming human spaceflight program, Gaganyaan. Conducted at 3,500m altitude, the mission simulates space-like conditions such as hypoxia, extreme cold, and isolation to study astronaut resilience.

Sports:

• Murali Sreeshankar won the men’s long jump title at the Indian Athletics Series 2026 in Bengaluru. He recorded a best jump of 8.15m, surpassing the Asian Games qualifying mark (7.91m). Sreeshankar cleared the qualifying standard on all six attempts, showing strong consistency.

Defence:
