Kabul and Mumbai Linked with Second Air Corridor

Published on December 28, 2017
To encourage the export of fresh fruits and medicinal plants from Afghanistan, India has launched second India-Afghanistan air cargo route linking Kabul to Mumbai.

Kabul and Mumbai Linked with Second Air Corridor

  • Kabul-New Delhi air corridor that was inaugurated by President Ashraf Ghani in mid-June has been successfully nurturing India and Afghanistan's import-export relations. Since the launch of first air corridor, India has imported10,640 tons of fresh produce, fresh and dried fruits, medicinal plants and handicrafts worth more than $20 million.
  • Kabul-Mumbai route will boost up the export of Afghani fruits which are to send in Amritsar.

India's help to Afghanistan

India is not charging taxes (from) Afghan traders. Exhibition for Afghan traders in Mumbai city and creation of business chambers are promised by India.

Reasons of Direct Air Corridors

India and Afghanistan faced troubles in export-import as Pakistan was a stumbling block when it came to trade between the two via the land route. Afghanistan is dependent on the Pakistani port city of Karachi for its foreign trade. It is allowed to send a limited amount of goods overland through Pakistan into India, but imports from India are not allowed along that route. The air route will now remove Pakistan from that equation. During Heart of Asia Conference held in Amritsar last year, PM Modi and Afghan President decided to establish an air cargo route between the two countries.
