Current context: Dr Monisha Ghosh, an Indian-American has become the first woman appointed as Chief Technology Officer at the US government's powerful Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

  • She has replaced Dr Eric Burger and will take charge on 13th January 2020.
  • She is tasked to advise Ajit Pai, an Indian-American Chairman of the FCC and the agency on technology and engineering issues.
  • Dr Monisha Ghosh has completed her B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur in 1986 and received her PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1991.
  • The FCC regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and US territories.
  • The FCC is an independent US government agency responsible for implementing and enforcing America's communications law and regulations.
