- After consideration on the draft notification that was issued in July 2019, the government has issued the notification.
- The notified automotive industry standards are made through an amendment in the Central Motor vehicles Rules 1989 and include the motor vehicles and their parts, components, assemblies and sub-assemblies.
- As per the notification, "the manufacturers who are affixing microdot identifiers in the motor vehicles and their parts shall conform to Automotive Industry Standards (AIS)-155".
- The microdots will be now affixed on the motor vehicles by spraying on the body and parts with microscopic dots to give a unique identification for enhancing the security of vehicles.
