Current context: Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang laid down the foundation stone of two Integrated Processing Units of Sikkim Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Organics

  • SIFFCO is a joint venture between the Government of Sikkim and IFFCO (the world's biggest fertilizer Cooperative).
  • The aim is to market and produce the organic produce of the country with its main focus on Sikkim and other north-eastern states of India.
  • Sikkim IFFCO will mainly operate in commercial crops that are ginger, turmeric, large cardamom and buckwheat.
  • The program will help take local produce of Sikkim in the international market and benefit farmers and local people of Sikkim.
  • Sikkim was the first fully organic state of the country where all farming is carried out without the use of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides.
