Current context: The Board of Directors of International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) had appointed Arvind Krishna as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on 30th January 2020.

  • The appointment is effective from 6th April 2020.
  • Arvind Krishna has replaced the current CEO Ginni Rometty (IBM’s first female CEO, 2012), but she will continue as executive chairman of the board through the end of 2020.
  • The company had also appointed James Whitehurst, CEO of Red Hat, as President at the company, effective 6th April 2020.
  • Arvind Krishna,57, is currently the senior vice president for cloud and cognitive software platform, IBM.
  • He has studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and has a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.
  • He joined IBM in 1990 and played a significant role in spearheading the Red Hat deal - IBM's biggest purchase in its 108-year history.
  • IBM is an American multinational information technology company headquartered in Armonk, New York, was founded in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR) and was renamed "International Business Machines" in 1924.
