  • Haitham bin Tariq al-Said took over as Sultan of Oman after the death of Sultan Qaboos. Qaboos had ruled Oman since 1970 and was the eighth sultan of the House of Al-Said.
  • Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Textiles, Smriti Irani launched Yashaswini Scheme for Women entrepreneurship in Goa. Under the scheme, women self-help groups will be given interest-free loans of upto Rs 5 lakh for business.

  • Harman Preet Kaur-led India squad Indian squad was announced for ICC Women's T-20 World Cup in Australia, starting on 21st February 2020.
  • Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal and led Serbia to victory in the inaugural ATP Cup at Sydney. The ATP Cup is an international outdoor hard court men's tennis tournament and is held across three Australian cities (Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney) over ten days.
  • India finished the year 2019 as the top shooting nation in the world with 30 medals overall (21 gold, six silver and three bronze).
