Current context: The first ever Exposure-cum-Training Tour on Organic Farming outside the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh (from Ladakh to Uttarakhand) is flagged off on 18th January 2020.

- The week-long tour of 25 progressive farmers is done under Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) programme.
- Under the programme, the entire Leh district of the Union Territory is targeted to achieve Organic farming by 2025.
- The move is also aimed at strengthen the “local” produce of Ladakh so that they are “significantly healthier than imported ones”.
- Currently, there are at least 34 organic villages in Leh district that have not used chemical fertiliser and pesticides during last three years and beyond.
- Under the MODI project, the administration has been planning to target more than 115 villages in the district for organic certification.
- The action plan of MODI was approved by the Special General Council of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh on 9th March 2019.
