Current Context: A Pune based company Genrich Membranes which is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has developed a membrane oxygenator equipment to treat COVID-19 patients.
- Membrane oxygenator equipment is used to treat breathlessness, one of the critical symptoms of COVID-19.
- It is based on innovative hollow fiber membrane technology and it can enrich oxygen in the air up to 35% and can also be used to treat patients who have been discharged from Intensive Care Units (ICU).
- It does not require trained manpower to operate it and is highly portable, compact and empowered with the plug-and-play facility.
