Current Context: Government of India has signed an agreement with World Bank to develop Housing Projects and provide affordable housing to the low- income groups in Tamil Nadu.
- The agreement is signed to strengthen the state’s housing sector and associated policies with housing sector.
- The agreement is signed to develop two housing projects in Tamil Nadu. The two projects accumulates with total loan agreement of $250 million.
- The name of the two projects under this agreement are : (a)Tamil Nadu Housing Sector strengthening Programme: For thus out of the total loan amount, $200 million will be utilised (b)Tamil Nadu housing and Habitat Development Project: This project will utilize remaining loan amount of $50 million.
- The loan amount is granted by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) with a maturity period of 20 years including grace period of 3.5 years.
