Current Context: The National GIS (Geographic Information System) enabled Land Bank System is launched by union minister of commerce and industry, Piyush Goyal.
- The National GIS-enabled Land Bank System will provide real-time information about the availability of industrial land and resources. It will provide details about industrial clusters all over India.
- The system is developed by integrating the Industrial Information System (IIS) to the State’s GIS. Until now, six major states are included in this system.
- Currently, the system is a prototype model and further, it will be enhanced by getting inputs from a number of states and to generate the system into an effective and transparent platform which will provide real-time information about the availability of industrial land and resources.
- The National GIS-enabled Land Bank System is supported by the National Centre for Geo-Informatics, Invest India, National E-Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Application and Geo-Informatics.
- Currently, the system is mapped with 3,300 industrial parks which are covering 4,75,000 hectares land. The system will also include data about the forest, raw materials, drainage etc. needed to construct an industry.
