NABARD launched Refinance Scheme for WASH Programme

Current Context: NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) launched refinance scheme for the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programme.

• The special refinance facility of Rs 800 crore for FY 2020-21 has been sanctioned by NABARD for WASH programme. 
• NABARD offers concessional refinance facilities to financial institutions like RRBs, commercial banks and cooperative banks with the repayment period of upto 36 months. 
• This support of NABARD will be transferred to fund the WASH activities, thrust area eligible for 95% refinance. 
• This refinance support will also be extended to NBFCs and MFIs.
