Current Context: The ‘National Portal for Transgender Persons’ was launched by Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot.

  • He also launched ‘Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’ in Vadodara, Gujarat. 
  • ‘National Portal for Transgender Persons’: This portal will help the transgender to apply for an identity card and a certificate in an online manner. The portal is developed under Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020. The portal will help transgenders to get the identity cards in their self-perceived identity which is an important provision of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
  • ‘Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’: It will be managed by Lakshya Trust which is a community based organisation which is run by Transgenders. It will offer shelter facility, food and healthcare facilities to transgender.
