Current Context: Mastercard and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) jointly launched ‘Project Kirana’.
‘Project Kirana’—Mastercard and USAID
  • Both the entities partnered with each other under Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative (W-GDP) to launch this project. 
  • ‘Project Kirana’ aims to uplift women entrepreneurs.  
  • It is basically a two-year programme which is launched in cities of Uttar Pradesh like Kanpur, Lucknow and Varanasi.
  • ‘Project Kirana’ will help women, entrepreneurs, to increase revenue, digital payments and expand financial inclusion.
  • It will also help women entrepreneurs with digital literacy and financial literacy initiatives along with improvement in business management skills in them.
  • The programme will be implemented and executed by DAI Digital Frontiers and ACCESS Development Services. 
  • The programme will increase revenues and digital payment process adoption of Kirana shops which are owned by women.
