Current Context: The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) successfully conducted test firing operation of SAAW (Smart Anti Airfield Weapon).
SAAW (Smart Anti Airfield Weapon)
  • It was test-fired from Hawk-i aircraft off the Odisha coast. 
  • The SAAW is developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad of DRDO. 
  • It is developed under HAL’s Hawk-i Program. 
  • Also, SAAW is the first smart weapon which is fired from an Indian Hawk.
  • Basically, SAAW is a long-range precision-guided anti-airfield weapon which is able to engage ground targets with precision up to a range of 100km.
