SC-NBWL approved the Advisory for Human-Wildlife Conflict Management

Current Context: The Standing Committee for National Board of Wildlife (SC-NBWL) has approved advisory for Human-Wildlife Conflict Management.

• The advisory for Human-Wildlife Conflict Management will be set up to have effective inter-departmental coordinated actions.
• The advisory for Human-Wildlife Conflict Management will be responsible to empower Gram Panchayats to deal with problematic wild animals as per the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
• The advisory will also be responsible to encourage usage of crop compensation under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana against crop damage due to human-wildlife conflict.
• They will work to augment fodder and water sources within forest areas.
• The advisory will identify the hotspots and will formulate solutions to improve stall-fed farm animals.
• The SC-NBWL has also included Caracal (medium-sized wild cat) into a list of critically endangered species.
