Current Context: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) has signed an MoU with the Central Silk Board under the Ministry of Textiles.
MoA&FW signed MoU with Central Silk Board
  • The MoU was signed to implement Agroforestry in the silk sector under the Sub-Mission on Agroforestry (SMAF) Scheme.
  • The Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, will act as a catalyst to promote Agroforestry in the silk sector.
  • The MoU was signed during an event of ‘National level programme on the convergence of Agro-Sericulture and eradication of Thigh reeling’.
  • The MoU was signed with an aim to fulfil the target set under the Make in India and Make for the World vision of the Prime Minister.
  • The MoU will encourage farmers to adopt sericulture based Agroforestry models.
  • This partnership will also lead to having faster returns to the growers and support to the product variety of range of silk in the country.
