PM inaugurated ‘Maitri Setu’ between India & Bangladesh

Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated ‘Maitri Setu’ connecting India and Bangladesh.

‘Maitri Setu’ is constructed over the Feni River. The Feni River flows between the Indian boundary in Tripura and Bangladesh.
The name ‘Maitri Setu’ symbolizes the friendly relations between both nations.
Also, the PM of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina was present at the inauguration ceremony.
The ‘Maitri Setu’ will prove beneficial as an important trade corridor for both nations.
It is 1.9 km which joins Sabroom in India with Ramgarh in Bangladesh. It is constructed by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. Total funds required for the construction was Rs 133 crores.
PM Modi also inaugurated various infrastructural projects in Tripura. He laid the foundation stone to set up an integrated check post at Sabroom for the movement of goods and passengers between both nations. The funds allotted for this is Rs 232 crores. He also laid the foundation stone of NH 208 which will connect the Unakoti district headquarters at Kailashahar in the state with the Khowai district headquarters.
