Current Context: The 21st edition of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) Session was held recently.

  • The Indian side was represented by Union Minister Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal and Italy’s side was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio.
  • Both the dignitaries discussed bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation for the areas like Food Processing, Textiles, Leather, Railways, startups, SMEs.
  • They assured to work jointly to promote SMEs as it is a major entity for economic growth and employment generation.
  • They discussed bilateral market access issues and non-tariff barriers.
  • The progress activity about the outcomes of the India-EU leaders Summit in Porto, Portugal was analyzed.
