Current Context: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched `SonChiraiya’.
  • The `SonChiraiya’ is a brand and logo for marketing products made by the urban Self-Help Group (SHG).
  • The ‘SonChiraiya’ – (A brand and logo) was launched by Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • It will help women to empower and become financially strong.
  • The ‘SonChiraiya’ will provide visibility and access to the products made by SHG women.
  • It will make the products popular in the market and also in this regard, the ministry has signed MoUs with e-Commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.
  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs initiative named DAY-NULM (Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission) is focusing on imparting poor women in urban areas with skills and opportunities so that they can develop their own sustainable micro-enterprises to sustain livelihood.
  • The DAY-NULM helps women to join SHGs & their federations in order to create a support system for them.
