Current Context: The credit plan for yak husbandry in Arunachal Pradesh was approved by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

  • It will help the herders to secure loans, which will further help them to strengthen their livelihoods.
  • The scheme was developed by the National Research Centre on Yak (NRCY), which Indian Council of Agricultural Research. It was developed by NRCY at Dirang in the West Kameng district.
  • The approved credit plan will help to extend advances by commercial banks and is also inducted in the potential linked credit plans (PLCP) of the Tawang, West Kameng, and Shi Yomi districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The scheme will help to enhance the dividends of Yak herders living in the Eastern Himalayan region.
  • It will also prove supportive to tackle the decline of the yak population and thus preserve them.
