- The alliance is launched through partnering two entities namely National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and National Institute for Urban Affairs (NIUA).
- The NMCG comes under Jal Shakti Ministry and NIUA cones under Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
- The secretariat will be set up by NIUA with support from NMCG.
- The RCA is a dedicated platform for river cities in India. It will allow to discuss and exchange information in order to have a sustainable management of urban rivers.
- The alliance will focus on three broad themes namely, Networking, Capacity Building and Technical Support.
- The cities included in the alliance are: Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Munger, Patna, Berhampore, Hooghly-Chinsurah, Howrah, Jangipur, Maheshtala, Rajmahal, Sahibganj, Ayodhya, Bijnor, Farrukhabad, Kanpur, Mathura-Vrindavan, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Aurangabad, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Pune, Udaipur and Vijayawada.
- Through this alliance, the cities will be able to minimize their water footprint, eradicate harmful impacts on river and water bodies, perform recycling, reuse strategies to have self-sustainable water resources.
- The cities will be able to frame and implement urban river management plans for sustainable urban river management.
