Current Context: The CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) developed an indigenous RT-PCR diagnostic kit, named ‘Om’.
CSIR-CDRI developed RT-PCR Diagnostic Kit named as ‘Om’
  • It will be used for testing the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
  • It will generate the results in two hours. Thus, it offers quick and cost-effective detection of omicron variants.
  • It cost Rs 150.
  • It can also be used to test other emerging variants of Covid infection and other respiratory infections.
  • It will be launched by mid-February, once it gets approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
  • It is made by a team of three scientists, which was headed by senior principal scientist Atul Goel and four research scholars.
