- The Covifenz is the world’s first plant-derived Covid-19 vaccine.
- It is jointly developed by Medicago Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline Plc.
- The vaccine dose can be given to adults between 18 to 64 age.
- It is made from plant-based proteins and makes use of Glaxo’s adjuvant that contains DL-alpha-tocopherol, squalene, polysorbate 80, phosphate-buffered saline.
- It also includes potassium phosphate monobasic anhydrous, anhydrous sodium chloride, sodium phosphate dibasic anhydrous, and water for injection.
- The company used living plants as bioreactors to produce a particle that mimics the target virus. Further, the virus-like particles were developed by undergoing various processes like synthesis, infiltration, incubation, harvest, and purification.
