- Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh distributes community forest resource rights to 10 villages in core and buffer areas of two tiger reserves under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
- On August 9, World Indigenous People's day Bhupesh Baghel gave the titles to five-gram sabhas in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve and Sitanadi-Udanti Tiger Reserve.
- In Achanakmar Tiger Reserve the gram sabha whose rights have been recognized is in Mungeli District. Four villages are situated in the core area and one in the buffer area.
- In Sitanadi Tiger Reserve three-gram sabhas community forest resource rights have been recognized along with two in the buffer area of the Udanti part of Sitanadi-Udanti Tiger Reserve in the Gariaband district.
- Community forest resource includes traditional grazing grounds, areas for collecting roots, tubers, fodder, wild edible fruits, minor forest produce, sources of water for human or livestock use, and medicinal plant collection territories of herbal practitioners.
- CM Bhupesh Baghel recognized the rights of 12,527.548 hectares of forest land. The government will launch a campaign to create awareness about Community Forest Resources Rights among Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers from August 15 to January 26.
- To educate gram sabhas about their rights a calendar has been prepared by the Foundation for Ecological Security along with Forest and Tribal development department.
