- This is aimed to strengthen the rural economy and make the gauthan (cattle shed) a center of livelihood. In the first year of the project, 300 rural industrial parks will be established. The project will be launched on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti.
- The 'Gramin aajeevika parks' will be known as 'rural industrial parks' to develop gauthans as livelihood centers. Keeping Mahatma Gandhi's vision of gram swaraj, which is to strengthen the rural economy by promoting cottage industries, the Chattisgarh government has started this initiative to form units that provide income-generating opportunities.
- The first park was established in Kulgaon, Kanker district which has been named Gandhi Gram. The park was developed by the district administration along with women's self-help groups.
- Some of the livelihood-related activities are producing vermi-compost, goat rearing, manufacturing incense sticks, dona-pattal (leaf plate) manufacturing, fish farming, egg production, and mushroom output.
- Chhattisgarh has set up 8,404 gauthans of the 10,624 sanctioned. The state government is currently procuring cow dung at Rs 2 per Kg for making vermi-compost. Once the 300 parks are started the production will be increased.
