Current Context: Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched India's first saline water LED 'Roshni'.
India's first saline water LED 'Roshni' launched
  • Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched latern named 'Roshni' at Sagar Anveshika, a Coastal Research Vessel of National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai used for coastal research.
  • This saline water later will boost the Ujwala Scheme of the government launched in 2015 for the distribution of LED bulbs across the country.
  • Roshni lamps along with the Power Minister's scheme like the Solar Study Lamp will be driving a vibrant renewable energy program that aims to achieve energy security, and energy access and reduce the carbon footprints of the national economy.
  • Jitendra Singh and Secretary of Ministry of Earth Science Dr. M Ravichandran visited the laboratories to hoist the flag on board the ship as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
