- Defence:
- An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent left for Malaysia to participate in a four-day bilateral exercise ‘Udarashakti’ with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). This continues the recent trend of India’s expanding defence and security cooperation with South East Asian countries. From the Indian Air Force Su-30, MKI, and C-17 aircraft will be participating while the RMAF will be flying Su-30 MKM aircraft.
- Government Schemes:
- The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry launched the ‘SMILE-75’ initiative for comprehensive rehabilitation of persons engaged in begging in 75 identified municipalities as a part of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence.
- The initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing SMILE project (Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise) for which Rs. 100 crores has been allocated till 2025-2026.
- Banking and Finance
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has disallowed the use of Letters of Comfort (LoC), which may impact loans worth Rs 35,000 crore. Sixty percent of these belong to the power, healthcare, engineering & construction, and road sectors.
- LoC is a letter issued by a parent company that tells a bank that they know the loan is availed by one of their subsidiaries.
- State Bank of India (SBI) to manage Indian visa centers (IVAC) In Bangladesh for two more years. An agreement was signed by SBI Bangladesh Country Head of Operations Amit Kumar and Deputy High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh Dr. Binoy George at an event organized at IVAC Dhaka at Jamuna Future park. High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh Vikram K Doraiswami, officials of the Indian High Commission, and SBI attended the event.
- Navi Mutual Fund has announced the launch of Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund, which is India’s first index fund focusing on the manufacturing sector. This is the sixth fund of this year from Navi MF.
- As per the scheme document, Navi Nifty India Manufacturing Index Fund is an open-ended index fund that will seek to replicate the Nifty India Manufacturing Index, which will track the performance of manufacturers among the top 300 companies in India.
- State News
- Tamil Nadu gets the fifth elephant reserve at Agasthyamalai in the Tirunelveli district. India has 31 elephant reserves. A total of 76,508 sq km across 14 states in the country is brought under elephant reserve.
- Sports
- Tata steel introduces women's events in the 4th edition of the Tata Steel Chess India tournament. The tournament will be held from November 29 to December 4 in Kolkata.
- Sunil Chhetri was named as AIFF Men's Footballer of the year 2022 and Manisha Kalyan as the AIFF Women's Footballer of the year 2022. They were nominated as winners by their respective National team coaches Igor Stimac and Thomas Dennerby.
- Major Dhyanchand stadium to host Phase 1 of 1st Khelo India Women's hockey League U-16. The league is scheduled to be held from August 16 to 23. A total of 16 teams from various countries will be participating in the league.
- Long Jumper Murali Sreeshankar finishes sixth in his debut Diamond League held in Monaco. He has managed to jump 7.94 m.
- National News
- Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR) has developed an indigenous vaccine for Lumpy Skin disease in cattle that has spread across many states. The disease has spread to Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar, and Uttarakhand.
