- This development came after the ministerial-level discussion between the two-state to solve the border dispute. Atul Bora and Ashok Singhal ministers from Assam had discussed the border issue with the Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga.
- During the ministerial level discussion which was held in Aizawl, where both the states agreed to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident along the border.
- During the discussion both the states signed a joint statement according to which they will hold meetings of deputy commissioners of bordering districts atleast once in a month. Both the delegations also agreed to conduct the next round of ministerial-level talks at Guwahati in October.
- The Chief Minister level meeting will be held in New Delhi in August or early September. Three districts in Mizoram - Aizawl, Kolasib, and Mamit share a 164.6km long boundary with Hailakandi, Karimganj, and Cachar districts of Assam.
