Current Context: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, chaired a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the PM CARES Fund.

  • The Trustees of the PM CARES Fund, i.e. Home Minister and Finance Minister of India attended the meeting, along with the newly nominated trustees of the PM CARES Fund:
  1. Justice K.T. Thomas, Former Judge, Supreme Court
  2. Kariya Munda, Former Deputy Speaker
  3. Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons
  • Following personalities were nominated by the Trust for constitution of the Advisory Board to PM CARES Fund:
  1. Rajiv Mehrishi, Former Comptroller and Auditor General of India
  2. Sudha Murthy, Former Chairperson, Infosys Foundation
  3. Anand Shah, Co-founder of Teach for India and Former CEO of Indicorps and Piramal Foundation.
  • Various initiatives undertaken under the PM CARES Fund, including the PM, CARES for Children scheme were presented at the meeting.
  • At the event, PM Modi said that the PM CARES will assist in responding to emergency situations, through relief assistance, mitigation measures, and capacity building.
  • The Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund) was created in 2020 with the objective to create a fund for combating COVID-19 and similar pandemic outbreaks in the future.
