  • Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Islands got India’s 1st Swachh Sujal Pradesh certification. It is an initiative of the Jal Shakti Ministry under which it provides certification for ODF Plus status, Safe and secure drinking water supply, and Awareness about cleanliness and convergence of schemes.
  • Typhoon Nanmadol hit Kagoshima city situated on the western coast of Japan, killing at least two and causing transport disruptions across the city. The winds with a high velocity brought heavy rains to the area.
  • The Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the Bogibeel Riverfront Passenger Jetty near Dibrugarh in Assam. It has been developed by the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) as part of Riverfront Development near the road and rail, Bogibeel Bridge.
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the merger of the Jio Cinema Over The Top (OTT) Platform with Viacom18. Under this merger, Reliance’s Jio Cinema OTT will be transferred to Viacom18.

  • The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) celebrated its 11th Foundation Day. The Foundation Day was celebrated by organizing events including the plantation of 1100 trees, distribution of 2100 food packets, blood donation camp, guest-lectures for 2200 school kids, indoor sports tournament comprising of Chess, Table-tennis, Carom, Foosball, etc.
  • Under its digital transformation project, “Sambhav”, the Union Bank of India (UBI) launched end-to-end digitalization of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) product for the farmers.
  • More than 1,000 hectares of illicit cannabis (ganja) cultivation were destroyed by the Central Bureau of Narcotics in Himachal Pradesh.
  • Appointments:
    • Former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Rama Subramaniam Gandhi was appointed as the Non-Executive (Part-Time) Chairperson of the YES Bank.
  • Obituary:
    • Actor and Singer Marva Hicks passed away at the age of 66. She was famously known for her roles in “The Lion King” and “Motown: The Musical”.
  • Important Days:
    • Every year, September 21 is observed as the International Day of Peace. It is the initiative of the United Nations General Assembly. The theme for IDP-2022 is, “End Racism. Build Peace.”
  • Sports:
    • SAFF Women’s Championship 2022: Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 3-1 to clinch the SAFF Women’s Championship Title. It is the first championship title for Bangladesh. The SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 was held in Kathmandu, Nepal.
    • The International Cricket Council (ICC) permanently banned the use of saliva to polish the ball and declared “Mankading” as fair play.
    • World Para Athletics Grand Prix: India’s Devendra Jhajharia won the silver medal in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix held in Morocco. The javelin master clinched the second spot by throwing it 60.97m.
