Current Context: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility (ICMF) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

  • Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, ISRO Chairperson S Somanath, HAL Chairperson, and Managing Director CB Ananthakrishnan were also present at the event.
  • The ICMF will serve as a state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing Cryogenic and Semi-Cryogenic Engines.
  • With an investment of Rs. 208 crores, the ICMF has been set up over an area of 4,500 square meters with over 70 hi-tech equipment and testing facilities.
  • At the inaugural event, President said that India is the sixth country in the world with the capability of manufacturing cryogenic engines within the country.
  • HAL is a government-owned aerospace and defense company that was established in 1963 with its headquarters in Bengaluru. The current CEO of HAL is Mihir Kanti Mishra.
