  • National News:
    • People in Gujarat celebrated Bestu Varas or Gujarati New Year which falls every year on Shukla Paksha Pratipada of the Kartik month.
    • Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, launched the ‘Main Bhi Subhash’ campaign from Leh, Ladakh. It is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Subhash Chandra Bose INA Trust.
    • The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir celebrated the Jammu & Kashmir Accession Day on 26th October. On 27th October 1947, the then Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh, signed the Instrument of Accession and became part of India.
    • The Union External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar, in a meeting with British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, discussed bilateral relations between India and the UK and Russia-Ukraine War.

  • International News:
    • The Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, appointed Suella Braverman as the Home Secretary.
    • Statistics Canada recently released a report titled “Portrait of Immigration to Canada” regarding immigration and ethnocultural diversity in Canada.
    • NASA appointed a team of scientists and experts to study Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), hitherto known as Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).
  • Appointments:
    • Shefali Juneja was appointed as the Chairperson of the United Nations’ Air Transport Committee (ATC). Juneja is a 1992-batch IRS officer and is India’s representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
  • Important Days:
    • Every year 27 October is observed as Indian Army Infantry Day in India. This year 76th Infantry Day was observed to pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives fighting for the country.
    • Every year 27 October is observed as World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (WDAH) across the world. It is an initiative of UNESCO. The theme of WDAH 2022 was, “Enlisting documentary heritage to promote inclusive, just, and peaceful societies”.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
    • The Union Home Minister’s Trophy for the “Best Police Training Institution for Training of Gazetted Officers for the year 2020-21” was awarded to National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), Hyderabad.
    • The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), awarded Satyajit Ray’s “Pather Panchali” the best Indian film of all time. The 1955 movie was based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s 1929 Bengali novel of the same name.
  • Obituary:
    • The “dirtiest man in the world”, Amou Haji of Iran passed away at the age of 94. According to the locals, Haji didn’t take bath for nearly 70 years in order to live long.

    • Denmark Open 2022: China dominated the 2022 Denmark Open badminton tournament by winning:
