- Tata’s defence division, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and the European aviation giant Airbus will jointly manufacture C-295 Cargo aircraft for the IAF.
- It will be for the first time that the C-295 transport planes will be produced outside of Europe.
- PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the manufacturing facility of the C-295 Cargo Aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat on October 30, 2022.
- In September 2021, the Government of India and Airbus entered into an Rs. 22,000 crore agreement for the purchase of 56 C-295 transport planes.
- Out of these 56 aircraft, Airbus will deliver 16 planes in a “fly-away” condition from its assembly line in Spain and the remaining 40 will be produced and assembled by the TASL in India.
- TASL is a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Sons and was established in 2007 with its headquarters in Hyderabad, Telangana. The current Chairperson of the company is Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
- Airbus is a European aerospace company that was founded in 1970 with its headquarters in Blagnac, France. The current CEO of the corporation is Guillaume Faury.
