  • On the anniversary of the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birth, which was marked nationwide as "Good Governance Day," the International Space Registry dedicated a star in his honor. The star is 392.01 lightyears away from Earth. It is the star that is nearest to the Sun. The star gets the name Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji.
  • The food provided at the Bulandshahr prison in Uttar Pradesh has received a five-star certification and the "Eat Right Campus" label from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI).
  • IIT Kanpur has developed an "Artificial Heart" to deal with Acute Cardiac Problems.
  • India's first state to "humanize" prisons is Arunachal Pradesh. It has been designated as a "Correctional Center" by the state government. At Lower Sher near Kimin in the Papum Pare region, Chief Minister Pema Khandu laid the cornerstone for the state's first "Central Jailturned-Correctional Center."

  • In 2023, Russia will start giving India the S-400 air defense missile system's third squadron. A three-year deal of approximately 35,000 crores between India and Russia will be used to buy five squadrons of S-400 air defense missiles.
  • IIT Kharagpur wants to set up an engineering institute in Malaysia as part of a plan to go global, as said by its director V.K Tewary.
  • The most centrally protected monuments that have been illegally encroached upon are in Uttar Pradesh. The Central Government claims that 356 monuments under its protection have been illegally encroached upon throughout India. This is an increase from the 2019 figure of 321 protected monuments that have been infringed.
  • To promote the culture and tourism of the area, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, Delhi, hosted the 10th North East Festival (NEF) 2022 (from December 23 through December 26).
  • The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) Executive Committee approved 12 projects for the development of sewage infrastructure in the Ganga basin, specifically in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, totaling about Rs 2,700 crore.
  • The Rs 200 per cooking gas cylinder subsidy for 12 cylinders per year under the Ujjwala Scheme is scheduled to be extended for one more fiscal year in the 2023–2024 Union Budget. The Ujjwala scheme may also be extended by the budget past March 2023 in order to provide domestic cooking gas to untapped regions of states and achieve the objective of 100% liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) coverage.
  • Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), an Indian subsidiary of Maire Tecnimont Group, Italy, and NTPC Limited (formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly evaluate and explore the possibility of developing a commercial scale Green Methanol Production facility at NTPC project in India.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
    • According to Taste Atlas, India is ranked fifth on the global list of best cuisines for 2022. Italy’s food came first, followed by Greece, Spain, and Japan. India received a total score of 4.54. The best-rated foods in the country include “garam masala, malai, ghee, butter garlic naan, and keema.”
    • Dr. Aleida Guevara, a social worker and human rights advocate from Cuba, has been chosen to receive the inaugural KR Gouri Amma national award in 2022. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan will present the award. The award consists of $3,000, a statute, and a citation.
    • Tata Steel has been recognized by the Great Place to Work Institute as a "Great Place to Work" for 2023. For the sixth year, the Company has been recognized for its efforts to create a diverse and long-lasting organization.
    • At the 9th Atal Samman Samaroh, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on the anniversary of former prime minister (PM) Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birth, Prabhu Chandra Mishra was presented with the Atal Samman Award (Atal Anveshi Shikhara Samman). He received the honor for his outstanding work in the fields of science and research.
  • International News:
    • Abdulla Yameen, the former president of the Maldives, was found guilty of money laundering and bribery and given an 11-year prison term. Yameen, who lost power in 2018, was sentenced to five years in jail and fined 5 million dollars in 2019 for embezzlement in state funds

    • International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, held annually on December 27 to promote awareness of the value of prevention, preparation, and cooperation in the fight against epidemics.
  • Sporting accomplishments:
    • FIFA officially announced the 2022 world rankings, where Brazil holds on to their No.1 spot while Argentina is at no. 2 and France is at No. 3. India’s rank was 106th
    • With 10 medals total—five gold, three silver, and two bronze—the Railways team has won the most medals at the Women's National Boxing Championship 2022.
    • The third stage of the Archery Asia Cup 2022, which was held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, from December 20 to 25, 2022, was dominated by Indian archers. With 10 medals, including five golds, three silvers, and two bronzes, India leads the medal count.
  • Appointments:
    • Santosh Kumar Yadav, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre from the 1995 batch, was appointed as Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, according to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions order (MoPP&P).
