  • The underground metro station being built in Pune's Civil Court would be the deepest metro station in India, according to a statement made on January 18 by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro).

  • In order to establish an annual performance target for 2022–2023, the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

    • Pakistan has the lowest economy in South Asia, according to the World Bank.
    • The Boeing Company has received a $425 million grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for the agency's sustainable flight demonstrator project.
  • Awards:
    • Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) received the Best Small Bank Award 2022 in the Business Today-KPMG "Best Banks Survey for the year 2022" (BT-KPMG Best banks survey). Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister, gave S. Krishnan the award (TMB MD and CEO).
    • Krishna Vavilala, an Indian-American, won the MLK Grande Parade Special Award as the country remembered the legacy of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. for his efforts to integrate the Indian diaspora into mainstream America.
    • Manish Tiwari, the creator of a multicultural marketing business born in India, was given the title of "The Freedom of the City of London" for his services to the financial industry in the British capital.
    • A notable civilian honour in Bahrain, the Isa Award for Service to Humanity 2023, was given to renowned Nepali ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit.
    • For the outstanding actions made by the GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) in incorporating sustainability as one of its main ideas, the New Goa Manohar International Airport (MIA), previously Mopa International Airport, earned the "Best Sustainable Greenfield Airport" award.
  • Obituary
    • Nilmani Phookan, a prominent Assamese poet and Jnanpith Award and Padma Shri Awardee, passed away in Guwahati, Assam, on January 19, 2023, at the age of 89. In Assam's Dergaon (current-day Golaghat), he was born in 1933.
  • Appointments
    • The National Health Authority (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has chosen Praveen Sharma as its Director.
    • Aruna Miller has scripted history by becoming the first Indian-American politician to be sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor in the state of Maryland, adjoining the US capital.
    • Vishal Kapoor, the CEO of the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), has taken on the additional responsibility of becoming the CEO of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a division of EESL.
