Since the Declaration of Indian Independence was published by the Indian National Congress on January 26, 1930, that day was chosen as Republic Day.
  • In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) had its first Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) meeting outside of Delhi. The MOC members gathered to talk about the main goals of India's Olympic programme and suggestions for athletes participating in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
  • The world's first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine, iNNCOVACC, was unveiled by Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on January 26 in New Delhi. It is being developed by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance (BIRA) and Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) (BIRAC).

  • The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival will be held in Mumbai from January 27 to January 31, 2023, and is being organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting through the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The SCO Film Festival will feature 57 films from SCO nations in total.
  • The third iteration of Nagaland's yearly Orange Festival was held there on January 24 and 25, 2023, at the Rusoma village of the Kohima district. The hard work of the orange growers was recognised and honoured during the Orange Festival.
  • 10,000 women will be trained in cybersecurity and cyber wellness in the nation, according to a joint announcement from Oppo India and the Common Service Centre (CSC) Academy of the government. The Ministry of Electronics and IT supports this "Cyber Sangini" programme.
  • In order to provide house loans at low-interest rates, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Aadhar Housing Finance Limited (AHFL) have entered into a co-lending partnership. The major objective of this cooperation is to provide clients with simple, practical, and effective home financing options by reaching out to a significant portion of society, including economically disadvantaged, lower- and middle-income groups.
  • Jaypee Infratech was purchased by the National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL) from lenders headed by IDBI Bank. Over 9,000 crore rupees were invested by all banks in Jaypee Infratech, whereas only 3,750 crore rupees were invested by IDBI Bank.

  • India, which currently has 1.38 billion people, is expected to surpass China as the world's most populous nation in 2023. China currently has 1.4 billion people. In 2050, India is predicted to have a population of 1.668 billion, above China's 1.317 billion.
  • The world's first photonic-based, fault-tolerant quantum computer will be built and commercialised by Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc., a Toronto-based Canadian quantum computing company, thanks to a new federal investment of 40 million Canadian dollars (USD 32 million), according to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
  • Naresh Lalwani, a senior Indian Railway Service of Engineering officer from the 1985 batch, has assumed the position of General Manager of Central Railway.
  • Sangeeta Verma's tenure as the Competition Commission of India's acting chair has been extended by the Indian government (GoI) (CCI).
  • Ben Stokes, the captain of the England Test team, and all-rounder Nat Sciver have been named ICC cricketers of the year 2022.

  • The President Droupadi Murmu has authorised the presentation of 106 Padma Awards for 2023. Out of the 106 Padma Awards announced, 91 are Padma Shri, nine are Padma Bhushan, and six are Padma Vibhushan.
