Current Context: In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Directorate of Tourism is organizing a three-day Baisakhi festival on Dogra culture and heritage from April 13 to 15.

  • Various functions will take place across the Jammu division during a festival, including a procession from the Raghunath Temple to the Mubarak Mandi complex, a Kite Flying Festival, a Tonga Baggi ride, cultural programs, and other attractions.
  • Additionally, the first edition of the Constitution of India in Dogri language was released by Union Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju at Jammu University.
  • Dogri was included in the 8th schedule of the constitution in 2003, and this effort was a joint achievement of the Government of India and the University of Jammu after three years of hard work.
  • The earliest written reference to Dogri dates back to 1317 in Nuh Sipihar ("The Nine Heavens"), written by the poet Amir Khusro.
  • The celebration on April 14 will include a Kite Flying Festival at Maharaja Hari Singh Park in Jammu, and the revival of the traditional 'Tonga Baggi' ride at Kanak Mandi. Additionally, there will be cultural programs held at the Peer Kho Temple, featuring Dogri Dham.
