- National:
- President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to three new criminal justice bills and the Telecommunications Bill 2023. The three new laws are the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Act. These laws will replace the colonial era Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872.
- Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, released a commemorative Postal Stamp to mark 50 years of Pandit Jasraj’s music festival – ‘Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroha’. - On 27th December 2023, The University Grants Commission (UGC) released draft guidelines on recognizing colleges. These guidelines are named the “UGC (Recognition of Colleges under Clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act) Regulations, 2023”.
- The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a draft policy to promote green hydrogen production. The policy aims to reduce the cost of green hydrogen, achieve 20% green hydrogen blending in total hydrogen consumption by 2028, and make Uttar Pradesh a 100% green hydrogen-consuming state by 2035.
- In 2023, India lost a record 204 tigers, according to the Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI). - A Protocol on Consultations is a document that outlines the areas and modalities of bilateral cooperation between two countries. - NASA has renamed its former OSIRIS-REx spacecraft to OSIRIS-APEX (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification and Security – Apophis Explorer) and launched it on a new mission to study asteroid Apophis. Apophis is a near-Earth asteroid that will make a very close approach to our planet in 2029, closer than some satellites.

- Justice Shree Chandrashekhar was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court on 27th December 2023. This appointment came as the incumbent Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra retired upon reaching the age of 62. Justice Chandrashekhar has a distinguished career, having conducted about 3500 cases, mostly in the Supreme Court of India.
- Nina Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, has become the first woman to be appointed as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on 28th December 2023.
- Obituaries:
- Jacques Delors, the former President of the European Commission and a key figure in the creation of the euro currency, has passed away. He was 98 years old. Delors, who was also a French politician, died in his sleep.
