  • Appointments
    • According to a Personnel Ministry, 2008 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Shweta Singh was appointed as a director in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
    • Suresh N Patel's appointment as the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). President Droupadi Murmu administered the Oath of Office to Suresh N Patel at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu were present during the oath-taking ceremony.
    • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen took additional charge as DG of ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police). ITBP DG Sanjay Arora was appointed as the New Delhi Police Commissioner.
    • Dr. Ranjit Rath was appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of Oil India Limited (OIL). He is the recipient of the prestigious National Geosciences Award from the President of India.
  • Sports
    • India's weightlifter Gurdeep Singh won a bronze medal in the +109kg category weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2022. He lifted a total weight of 390kg (167kg+223kg) for a podium finish.
    • Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar won a bronze medal in the men's high jump event at Commonwealth Games 2022. National record holder Tejaswin Shankar cleared 2.22m to finish third in the event.
    • Tania Sachdev has registered a 2.5-1.5 win for India against Hungary in the fourth-round match of the women's section at the 44th Chess Olympiad in Mamallapuram, Chennai.
    • India's Tulika Maan wins a silver medal in the Women's 78kg Judo event at Commonwealth Games 2022. Scotland's Sarah Adlington won the gold medal.
    • India’s Saurav Ghosal has clinched the bronze medal in squash men’s singles by beating James Willstrop of England 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 to take India’s Commonwealth Games 2022.

  • Science
    • South Point High School (part of MP Birla group), a private school in Kolkata will launch its own nano-satellite to train its students in space science. An agreement has been signed between the school and the Indian Technology Congress Association (ITCA) for the launch of the satellite. The satellite is named as PriyamvadaSat in memory of Priyamvada Birla, the former chairperson of the business group.
  • Banking and Finance
    • SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India) enters into a partnership with SVC Co-operative bank, under this partnership SIDBI will extend refinance facility to SVC bank to improve the flow of credit to MSMEs. The agreement is signed by Ashish Singhal, SVC Bank, and Sanjeev Gupta, GM SIDBI in Mumbai.
    • State bank of India (SBI) to issue additional tier-I (AT-1) bonds worth Rs 7000 cr in a single tranche around the end of August. Last year SBI's board had given approval for raising upto Rs 11,000 cr via additional tier-I and tier-II bonds to meet regulatory requirements and support business growth.

    • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 6 National Highway projects of 119 Km worth Rs. 2300 Crore in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
    • Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan has inaugurated a project of the Women and Child Development department. This project helps to provide milk and eggs to children at all Anganwadis in the state in a bid to improve their nutrition levels.
    • Andhra Pradesh ranks first in the utilization of agricultural infrastructure funds (Agri Infra Fund). It has emerged as the best state by laying great emphasis on infrastructure development at the farm gate.     • The central government will release a special commemorative postage stamp to mark the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, designer of India's national flag.
    • The Centre withdrew the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2021. Information technology (IT) minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was granted permission to withdraw the Bill in Parliament.
      • “The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 was deliberated in great detail by the Joint Committee of Parliament (JCP). 81 amendments were proposed and 12 recommendations were made towards the comprehensive legal framework on the digital ecosystem,” the minister informed the other MPs about the “reasons for the withdrawal.”
  • International News
    • India to host diplomats of the 15-nation UN Security Council in October for a special meeting on counter-terrorism. India is now in the second year of its two-year term as an elected non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. India's tenure will end in December this year.
