  • PM Narendra Modi received a copy of the Braille version of the Assamese Dictionary “Hemkosh” from Jayanta Baruah. Hemkosh was the first etymological dictionary in the Assamese language published in 1900.
  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully demonstrated a hybrid propulsion system that uses solid fuel and liquid oxidizers. The hybrid motor was tested at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu.
  • The former promoter of ABG Shipyard Ltd, Rishi Agarwal, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bank loan scam case of Rs. 22,000 crores.
  • In its “modest downward revision”, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) slashed India’s FY23 growth projection to 7% from 7.5% estimated in April 2022. The rise in inflation and monetary tightening were the primary reasons behind this cut.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) removed the Central Bank of India from the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework after 5 years, of complying with parameters like maintaining capital ratios, and net non-performing assets (net NPAs).
  • Appointments:
    • Former Indian wicket-keeper, Ajay Ratra, was appointed as the Uttar Pradesh cricket team coach. He will replace Vijay Dahiya.
    • Business Tycoon Ratan Tata, former SC judge KT Thomas and former Dy. Speaker Kariya Munda was appointed as the trustees of the PM CARES Fund.
    • Professor of IIT-BHU, Rajiv Prakash, was appointed as the Director of IIT- Bhilai by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
  • Obituary:
    • One of India’s best comedians, Raju Srivastava, passed away at age 58. Earlier in August, he suffered a cardiac arrest and has been on life support since.
    • Artist and illustrator N. Jayachandran passed away at the age of 57. He worked for the Malayala Manorama, The Indian Express, Outlook, and Mint.
