  • India's economic growth is expected to decline to 5.7 percent this year from 8.2 percent in 2021, a top UN agency projected on Monday, citing higher financing costs and weaker public expenditures.

  • Awards and recognitions: 
    • Mumtaz Khan: She has won the Rising Star of the year 2021-22 award from the Federation Internationale de Hockey (FIH).
    • Former German chancellor Angela Merkel: She won the UN refugee agency prize from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
    • Roxy Mathew Koll, a scientist at the Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), received the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) 2022 Devendra Lal Memorial Medal.
    • Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is known for his work in Gangs of Wasseypur, Mirzapur, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and several other hit movies, has been roped in as the National Icon by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The actor was already a State Icon of Bihar to create awareness and encourage youth to participate in elections.
  • Sports: Saudi Arabia to host Asian Winter Games in New Ski Resort. It was chosen by the 41st Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
  • PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia have been voted FIH Men's and Women's Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row.
  • Science and Technology: Iran launched a test “tug” into orbital space. It is capable of shifting satellites between orbits.
  • Appointments: Former Brigadier BD Mishra takes additional charge as Meghalaya Governor. He will succeed Satya Pal Malik.
  • CCI approves the amalgamation of ZEE(Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited), BEPL(Bangla. Entertainment Private Limited), and CME(Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited) which falls under sections 5(a) and 5(c) of the Competition Act, 2022.

  • The International Finance Corporation (World Bank’s private arm) has launched a new financing facility worth USD 6 billion to respond to the global food crisis and to support food production.
  • Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co Ltd has announced the launch of Activ Fit, a comprehensive health insurance plan for young and healthy adults. Targeted at consumers who are health aware and active, this new product by ABHICL is a first-of-its-kind in the industry and looks at rewarding them for their good health behavior.
  • Adani Enterprises announces the establishment of two new subsidiaries- Adani Disruptive Ventures Limited (ADVL) and Alwar Alluvial Resources Limited (AARL).
  • Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the three-day long 'Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers' that concluded on October 3 announced that Rs. 26,000 crores has been approved to install 25,000 new towers in the next 500 days.
  • There will be no charge for RuPay credit card use on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for transactions up to Rs 2,000 in line with the RBI direction as per the recent NPCI Circular.
  • The Election Commission launched Metadata Junction, a year-long voter awareness program on All India Radio. A total of 52-episode programs of 15-minute duration each will be broadcast every Friday on Vividh Bharati stations, FM Rainbow, FM Gold, and the Primary channels of AIR.
