  • ‘Rudraksh’: It is an International Cooperation and Convention Centre which was inaugurated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh by PM Narendra Modi. The centre will be a destination for conferences and will attract tourists and businesspersons to the city. Its roof is shaped like a ‘Shiva Linga’. It will be a platform to offer social and cultural interactions. It was built with assistance support from Japan International Cooperation Agency.
  • The RBI has cancelled the license of Dr Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd, Nilanga, Latur. Henceforth, the bank won’t be able to conduct banking business as per the rules mentioned under Section 5 (b) with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The reason for the cancellation of the license was that the bank didn’t had the required capital and earning prospects and failed to fulfil the norms under sections 22(3) (a), 22(3) (b), 22(3) (c), 22(3) (d), 22(3) (e) with Section (56) of Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
  • The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has invested $16.5 million in MedGenome to boost up access to testing of COVID-19. It will also support COVID-19 related research activities.

  • China has commenced the construction of the world’s first commercial modular small reactor ‘Linglong One’ at the Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant in Hainan Province of the country. The project is based on China National Nuclear Corporation’s (CNNC’s Linglong One (ACP100) technology. It is a multi-purpose small modular reactor (SMR). It will be having a generation capacity of 125,000-kilowatt hours, and once completed, it can climb up to 1 billion kilowatt-hours, thereby catering to more than 500,000 households in China.
  • The Adani Group has completely taken over ‘Mumbai International Airport’ from the GVK group. With this acquisition, Adani group has become the top company in terms of airport infrastructure companies in India. Henceforth, Mumbai International Airport will be operated by Adani Airport Holdings.
  • Karnataka Electric Bike Taxi scheme-2021: It was launched by Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa. The scheme will allow bike taxis to run on the road for a limited distance. It will grant ease of living and will generate job opportunities in the state. Under this scheme, organisations or individuals will be able to register their e-bikes as taxis.
  • The Government of Delhi partnered with Google to launch a system that will offer real time data about public buses of Delhi to the passengers. The system will be executed by integrating Delhi’s public transit system with Google Map.
  • Annual ‘Asha Bonalu’ Festival: It commenced in Telangana and will be held till 8th Aug 2021.
