  • MOUs
    • Kerala Development and Innovation Strategy Council (K-DISC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, along with the ICT Academy of Kerala (ICTAK) under the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission (KKEM) as a part of Connect Career to Campus campaign (CCC).
  • State News
    • Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announced 48 hr free bus ride for women starting from August 10 midnight till August 12 midnight on Rakshabandhan in UP.
    • The Uttarakhand government has decided to develop one Sanskrit-speaking village in each of the 13 districts in the state. Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to launch an initiative on this scale to promote Sanskrit. There is only one Sanskrit-speaking village in the state of Karnataka.
  • Appointments
    • Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba gets a one-year extension in the service by the government. This is the second extension of the post. Rajiv Gauba former Union Home secretary was appointed as cabinet secretary in 2019 for a period of two years. He was given a one-year extension in August last year.
    • Candidate for the National Democratic Alliance, Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected as the 14th vice president of India. He defeated the opposition’s candidate Margaret Alva. Dhankhar, a former governor of West Bengal, secured 528 votes against Alva’s 182. His victory margin was the highest since 1997.

    • Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off 'The Great Indian Run' from Lal Chowk. This marathon will cover a distance of more than 800 Kilometres from Sri Nagar to Delhi with a message of peace and national integration. This marathon is dedicated to the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign to mark 'AzadiKaAmritMahotsav'. The first leg of the run is being led by marathon-runner Arjun Bhardwaj. Sports icons including P T Usha, Anju Bobby George, World Championship medalists, commonwealth champions, former Indian footballers, and cricketers will join in the various legs of the run.
    • National Health Authority (NHA) partners with the Quality Council of India (QCI) to accredit and rate Health Management Information System (HMIS)/Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) solutions that have integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

    • Indian wrestler, Divya Kakran has won a bronze medal in the women’s 68 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022. In the bronze medal match, Kakran defeated Tonga’s Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie in 26 seconds via Victory by Fall. Kakran bagged the medal in only 26 seconds via Victory by Fall.
    • 22-year-old Mohit Grewal from Bhiwani, Haryana clinched the bronze medal in the Men's Freestyle 125kg in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022, in which he was pitted against Aaron Johnson of Jamaica.
    • Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sakshi Malik bagged a gold medal in the women's freestyle 65kg bout beating Canada's Ana Godinez Gonzalez in Commonwealth Games 2022.
    • Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won the gold medal in the 65kg freestyle wrestling category at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK. He defeated Canadian Lachlan McNeil.
    • Indian wrestler Deepak Punia wins gold medal in 85kg event beating Pakistan's Muhamad Inam at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
    • Indian wrestler Anshu Malik wins a silver medal after losing to Nigeria's Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye in the Women's 57kg freestyle event at Commonwealth Games 2022.

    • August 6 - Hiroshima Day
    • Every year August 6 is observed as Hiroshima day to spread awareness of the horrifying effects of the atomic bombing and to encourage peace. This day commemorates the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in Japan in 1945 at the end of world war II. This year marks the 77th anniversary of one of the most devastating events in history.
  • Banking and Finance
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed relaxations for standalone primary dealers (SPDs) to operate in the foreign exchange market alongside banks with an aim to enable their customers to hedge currency risks and broaden the availability of market makers.
    • The Uttar Pradesh government signed a memorandum of understanding with Deloitte India, appointing it as a consultant for achieving the target of bringing the state's economy to the USD1 trillion mark.
    • The Reserve Bank of India stated that premature redemption under the Gold Monetisation Scheme will be payable in rupees, while on maturity the depositor may choose to opt for physical gold.
    • India’s top mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corp has secured the world’s biggest social loan, a $1.1 billion facility (around Rs 8,700 crore) to fund affordable residences, underscoring the potential for sustainability-linked financing.
  • Government schemes
    • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recently launched the ‘Chief Minister Equal Education Relief, Assistance, and Grant (Cheerag)’ scheme. It aims to provide ‘free education’ to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students of government schools in budget private schools. Under the scheme, government school students whose parents have an annual verified income of less than Rs 1.8 lakh can enroll in private schools.
  • Science and Technology
    • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its smallest commercial rocket ‘Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)’ carrying ‘AzaadiSAT’, on August 7, 2022. It will be launched to unfurl the Tricolour in space, from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. 750 female students from government schools in remote areas from Kashmir to Kanyakumari created the “Azaadi Satellite."
