  • The Indian Navy launched the two indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessels (DSVs), Nistar and Nipun, in Vishakhapatnam. The vessels are 118.4 meters long and 22.8 meters wide.
  • The Ministry of Defence signed an agreement with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) to purchase surface-to-surface BrahMos Missiles. It is a Rs. 1700 Crore agreement under the “buy-Indian” category to boost the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.
  • The Beijing-based gene firm successfully cloned a wild Arctic wolf named Maya for the first time in the world. The Arctic wolf is native to Canada’s Queen Elizabeth Islands High Arctic tundra.
  • Mahindra and Mahindra announced an additional acquirement of a 17.41% stake in Swaraj Engine Limited (SEL) from Kirloskar Industries Limited (KIL) for Rs. 296 Crores.
  • The Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh governments signed a Combined Reciprocal Common Transport Agreement (CRCTA) to ensure seamless movement of passenger vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region.

  • Appointments:
    • Dr. M Srinivas was appointed as the new Director of the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. He will replace Dr. Randeep Guleria.
    • Dr. Rajiv Bahl was appointed the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for three years.
    • Atul Chaturvedi was appointed as the first Chairperson of the Asian Palm Oil Alliance (APOA). APOA is an intergovernmental grouping of major palm oil importing nations. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are members of APOA.
  • Banking:
    • Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance (ABSLI) launched the new-age savings solution ABSLI Akshaya Plan. The maximum age for entry is 55 years with the minimum being 30 days. Premium term varies from 6 years, 8 years, 10 years, 12 years, and 15 years. ABSLI is the life insurance subsidiary of Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL).
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) canceled the license of the Laxmi Cooperative Bank which was based in Solapur, Maharashtra. The RBI cited inadequate capital and earnings, and the bank’s failure to comply with the Banking Regulation Act 1949 as reasons for quashing the license.
  • Awards and Recognition:
    • Gautam Adani topped the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022 with an estimated wealth of Rs. 10,94,400 Crores. Mukhesh Ambani was second on the list with Rs. 7,94,700 Crores.
    • Indian author Meena Kandasamy won the Hermann Kesten Prize 2022 by the PEN Centre in Germany’s Darmstadt. Her famous works include Ms. Militancy and The Gypsy Goddess.
  • Obituary:
    • Russian Cosmonaut Valery Vladimirovich Polyakov passed away at the age of 80. He holds the record for the longest spaceflight in the world.
    • Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.P.A. Kareem passed away at the age of 72. He was the United Democratic Front (UDF) district convener in Wayanad, Kerala.
  • Important Days:
    • The first National Cinema Day was observed on 23 September 2022. It is an initiative of the Multiplex Association of India (MAI). In order to celebrate the event, more than 4,000 screens at multiplexes, including PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Carnival, etc. came together to offer a “celebratory admission price” of Rs 75.
  • Sports:
    • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the finals of the June 2023 Edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) will be hosted by The Oval, London and the June 2025 Edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) will be hosted by the Lord’s.
    • India defeated Australia by 6 wickets in a rain-obstructed 2nd T-20I match. Rohit Sharma was declared the Player of the Match for his quick 46 (20).
