  • National News
    • Prime Minister Modi will virtually address the 'Har Ghar Jal Utsav' event in Panaji, Goa. Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant will also be present at the event. The event will be held at Institute Menezes Braganza. Goa is the first state in the country to achieve 100 percent piped water supply in rural areas. The implementing agency for the scheme is State Public Works Department.
    • India's first double-decker AC electric bus Switch EiV 22 was unveiled in Mumbai. The Switch EiV 22 is equipped with the latest technology, ultra-modern design, highest safety, and best-in-class comfort features. This bus will be the world's first-semi low floor, air-conditioned, electric double-decker with a wider door on the rear overhang and a rear staircase. Switch India has already received an order for 200 electric double-decker buses in Mumbai.
    • The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the government of India launched the Manthan platform, which aims to promote collaboration between industry and the scientific research and development ecosystem to help meet India's sustainability goal in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) charter.
  • Appointments
    • The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) recommended Mohammad Mustafa as the chairman of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The final decision on the recommendations of FSIB will be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mohammad Mustafa served as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). He served as the CMD of the National Housing Bank between 2014-15 and MD of CERSAI in 2016.
    • Bajaj Electricals appoints Anuj Poddar as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He is currently serving as the Executive Director of Bajaj Electricals. Shekar Bajaj will continue as Executive Chairman of the company.

  • Banking and Finance
    • Digital financial services firm Paytm partnered with Samsung stores across India to facilitate smart payments as well as its loan service Paytm Postpaid through the deployment of point-of-sale devices.
    • HDFC bank launched a new campaign called 'Vigil Aunty' which will encourage people to practise safe banking habits. This will complement the bank's 'Mooh Band Rakho' campaign. The Vigil Aunty will motivate people to stay vigilant by keeping them informed about financial frauds, ways to detect cyber fraud attempts, and how to stay safe.
    • Reserve Bank of India cancels the licence of Deccan Urban Co-operative bank, Karnataka as the lender does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. As per the data submitted by the bank more than 99 percent of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC). The bank cannot carry out the banking business with effect from the close of business.
    • Logistics technology platform Shiprocket, backed by Zomato became India's 106th unicorn after raising $33.5 million (about Rs 270Cr) in a funding round co-led by Temasek and Light rock India. With the fresh round of funding, Shiprocket was valued at around $1.2 billion.
    • Yes Bank has announced its partnership with SellerApp which is a seller-centric intelligence platform. This partnership between Yes Bank and SellerApp will encourage the seller segment of its client base to adopt Open Network Digital Commerce (ONDC) and also help them to expand their digital commerce footprint.
    • Mastercard has partnered with Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, and Chirag Shetty and appointed them as brand ambassadors in India. As winners of the Thomas Cup 2022 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the new ambassadors will partner with Mastercard to spread awareness about the safety, security, and convenience of digital payments in India. This partnership is in line with the efforts of the Reserve Bank of India and Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Digital India.
    • Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, has signed an MOU with Food Corporation of India (FCI) to provide “Ultima Salary package”, a best-in-class salary account with exclusive benefits & features to all its employees.
    • Full service Vistara emerged as the second biggest airline by domestic market share in July with a 10.4% pie of the sky, distantly second to the market leader IndiGo at 58.8%, according to DGCA data. The number two, three, and four positions saw airlines separated by just a decimal.
    • Industry leader Ratan Tata announced an undisclosed investment into startup Goodfellows, which offers companionship to senior citizens as a service. The octogenarian industrialist has been an active backer of startups ever since he retired from the helm of the salt-to-software Tata Group.
  • Defence
    • India to participate in the multinational military exercise 'Vostok 2022' in Russia, which will also be attended by China. This is the first such large-scale joint military exercise being conducted in Russia since the conflict with Ukraine started in February this year.
    • The Border Security Force (BSF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to ensure the safety and security of booking data under its air e-ticket service for the troops of India’s border guarding force.
  • National News:
    • The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), along with the Department of Water Resources, River Development, Ganga Rejuvenation, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, organised an event ‘Yamuna Par Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at the water sports club in New Delhi.
    • Goa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (D&NH and D&D) become the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified State and UT in the country respectively, where people from all the villages have declared their village as ‘Har Ghar Jal’ through a resolution passed by Gram Sabha, certifying that all households in the villages have access to safe drinking water through taps, ensuring that ‘No One is Left Out’.
    • Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched a national mission to make India the number one country in the world and called on all citizens and political parties to join it.
    • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated India's first AC double-decker electric bus in Mumbai.
    • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that 'Dahi-Handi' will now be recognized as an official sport in the state. He also said that "Pro-Dahi-Handi" competitions will be introduced in the state. The ‘Govindas’ will get jobs under the sports category. We will provide insurance cover of Rs. 10 lakh.”
