- West Bengal to have seven new districts. With new districts, Berhampore, Kandi, Sunderbans, Bashirhat, Ichamati, Ranaghat, and Bishnupur the total number of districts becomes 30.

- A task force on monkeypox has been set up to closely monitor the situations in the country and decide on initiatives to tackle the spread of the disease. India has reported a total of four cases of the disease. The task force will be headed by Dr. V K Paul, NITI aayog member (health).
- Aurangabad has become the first in the country to witness the official release of the Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) data from Google.
- The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced the launch of ‘Nilekani Centre at AI4Bharat’ to advance the state of Indian language technology with the support of Rohini and Nandan Nilekani with a grant of Rs 36 crores through Nilekani Philanthropies.
- Sports
- England beat Germany 2-1 after extra time in Wembley Stadium in London to win UEFA Women's Euro for the first time. England is reaching the euro's final for the third time. Chloe Kelley scored the winning goal in the second half of extra time. Goals from Kelly and Ella Toone canceled out Lina Maghull's equalizer and set England to win the trophy.
- Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur won a bronze medal in the weightlifting 71 Kg category in Commonwealth Games 2022. She lifted a total of 212 kg (93 kg in snatch and 119 kg in clean and jerk). England's Sarah Davies won the gold medal with a total lift of 229 kg and Canada's Alexis Ashworth won the silver medal by lifting a total of 214 kg.
- India's Sushila Devi Likmabam won a silver medal in women's judo 48 Kg in Commonwealth Games 2022. She has earlier won a silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow, Scotland. South Africa's Michaela Whitebooi won the gold medal.
- India's Vijay Kumar Yadav won a bronze medal in men's 60 kg judo in Commonwealth Games 2022 as he beats Petros Christodoulides of Cyprus.
- Weightlifter Vikas Thakur has won the silver medal in the men’s 96 kg category. Thakur lifted a total weight of 346 kg. He completed a best snatch attempt of 155 kg and a clean & jerk attempt of 191 kg.
- Appointments
- Ruchira Kamboj is set to take charge as India's new permanent representative at the United Nations. She will become India's first woman envoy at the World body's headquarters in New York. She is a 1987-batch Indian Foreign Service(IFS) officer who is currently serving as India's envoy to Bhutan. She will succeed T S Tirumurti as the Indian Ambassador to the UN.
- Senior Indian Information Service officer, Satyendra Prakash has been appointed as the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
- The World Bank announced the appointment of Auguste Tano Kouamé from Côte d’Ivoire as its Country Director for India, its largest borrower in the world. He replaces Junaid Kamal Ahmad, who recently completed a five-year term.
- Science and technology
- Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) to launch a maiden flight of newly developed Small Satellite Launch Vehicle(SSLV) on August 7. The SSLV-D1/EOS-02 will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre(SDSC) in Sriharikota. On its first flight, SSLV will carry India's Earth Observation Satellites EOS-2 which has applications in mapping and developing GIS applications.
- Banking and Finance
- GST collection rose 28 percent to Rs 1.49 lakh crore on an annual basis in July 2022. In July 2021 GST collection stood at Rs 1,16,393 crore. The collection in July 2022 is the second highest since the introduction of GST in July 2017. The collection hit a record high of Rs 1.68 lakh crore in April 2022.
- Reserve Bank of India would not extend the timeline for storing card data and directed all stakeholders except for card issuers and card networks to purge the customer data before October 1, 2022.
- In a circular issued, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), instructed all parties—aside from card networks and card issuers—to delete all previously stored Card-on-File (CoF) data by October 1, 2022.

- Former Philippine President Fidel Valdez Ramos, a U.S.-trained ex-general who saw action in the Korean and Vietnam wars and played a key role in a 1986 pro-democracy uprising that ousted a dictator, has died. He was 94.
- Renowned Bengali singer Nirmala Mishra died at her residence in the Chetla area of South Kolkata after she suffered a heart attack. She was 81.
